Pandas eat almost entirely bamboo, which makes them incredibly vulnerable to habitat loss.
Bamboo contains very little nutrition so pandas have to eat lots of bamboo every day. On a daily basis pandas eat 12 to 38 kilograms (26 to 84 pounds). Pandas spend at least half a day eating because their digestive systems are meant for meat, not bamboo. Like other meat eaters, they have a simple stomach and a short small intestine. As a result, they cannot digest bamboo quickly and efficiently. Pandas in captivity are also given carrots, bread, and other things to boost their nutrition.
