Pandas are famous for their iconic diet of bamboo and appearance, but there's actually much more to these creatures than meets the eye. By studying panda feces, scientists have found that pandas are actually more suited to digesting meat. Pandas lack the digestive enzymes that herbivores need to break down bamboo, and as a result they can only digest a fraction of the bamboo they eat. This may explain why they eat so much: they simply can't gain all the nutrients from each bamboo stalk.
