We often think of growth as a slow process. It may take months or even years to see physical changes in appearance, especially for plants. However, there are exceptions to every rule in nature, and for this one it's bamboo. Their appearance is already quite strange, with a tall, hard stem and very few leaves. But you might be surprised that some species can reach full maturity in only 3 months, and the slowest growers take only 2 years. In addition, bamboo stems can be cut down without killing them, making them very convenient to harvest. In just a few years, you could make a fully functioning bamboo farm, whereas lumber from trees takes centuries to produce. This might be one of the reasons pandas have survived for so long: in just 1 day, a shoot might grow a foot more in length, so pandas can always find more food to eat.
